Located on the east coast of Kefalonia, Sami is the island's second busiest port and a popular tourist destination for thousands of visitors every year. The town's convenient location makes it an ideal base for exploring some of the island's most popular attractions, while the many restaurants and tavernas around the town's attractive harbour are a perfect venue to soak up the traditional Greek atmosphere.
Facilities at the port are rather limited, with public conveniences and vending machines being the only services available.
The ferry port is, however, situated just a short walk from the town, where you will find a wide choice of shops, banks, bars and restaurants.
Parking at the ferry port is quite limited especially during the peak summer months; visitors should be able to find ample short- and long-term parking options in the town itself. Passengers arriving on foot will find taxis waiting to meet the incoming ferries; alternatively, many people staying in the town choose to walk the short distance between the port and their hotel.
Port of Sami Information: Ferry Services - Sami, Kefalonia, Greece
There are three main companies operating regular ferry services from Sami, with regular routes to the Greek mainland, the Italian mainland and to other nearby islands. Strintzis Ferries operates a popular year-round route from Sami to Patras on the Greek mainland with a short stop at Ithaca on the way. Sami to Ithaca has a crossing time of 1 hour, 30 minutes, while Sami to Patras takes approximately 2 hours, 30 minutes.
There are two regular ferry routes from Sami to the Italian mainland, with regular sailings in the summer months and a more limited schedule at other times of the year. Maritime Way operates a route from Sami to Brindisi on most days during the peak season, with the crossing taking around 12 hours on an overnight vehicle ferry. Another popular Italian route is operated by Agoudimos Lines, with their crossing between Sami and Bari taking about 15 hours on an overnight ferry.
